Grandmasters Basketball League Halifax rULES OF PLAY

We basically use FIBA Rules - EXCEPT timeouts can be called from the bench or from the floor.

1. No Foul Shots! If foul would result in foul shots, play the foul as if the foul shots had been made - e.g. fouled in the act of shooting and missed the basket - count two points and change possession.
2. We use a 24 second shot clock (kept by ref). With 8 seconds to get past centre.
3. Fouls can be missed at each end.  We want to be honest.  Try to police yourselves.  Don't whack the player because you can; remember he can whack you too.
4. Remember Lou Dixon's - "We all have to go to work tomorrow!" Don't cause injuries!
5. We don't count player fouls unless the game is out of control.  Bonus is at 5 fouls per quarter resulting in 2 points.
6. Each team is allowed 1 Timeout / half (can be called from the floor).
7. Games start 5 mins after the hour and finish on the hour; this makes each quarter adjustable if we are running behind
8. Games are 4 11 minute qaters all running time with the exception of the last two minutes of the game.  This is stop time.
9. NO DEFAULTS! If a team is short players, players should be picked up from OPPONENT;
10. Substitutions - please use the honour system. Play 4 minutes or so and then come off on your own steam! If you won't remember, ask others to take you off at an appropriate time! Either team can sub at any time, but you must not gain an advantage from that sub. Do not let fresh player get on at other end of court from tired player and then have a layup. PENALTY - No basket but get ball back.
11. Abusive language, Fighting and Unsportsmanlike Behaviour will not be tolerated; first instance is game ejection and suspension for one game (next week after game ejection). A 2nd offence will result in elimination from League play with no money refund.
12. Direct any problems / questions / suggestions you may have to your team rep or league executive.
